THE VITAL ROLE OF MEDICAL SUPPLIES

At Community Empowerment (CE), we believe in bolstering existing healthcare systems rather than competing for resources. One of our key partners in this mission is Project C.U.R.E., an organization dedicated to delivering essential medical equipment and supplies to underserved hospitals and clinics around the world. Our partnership with Project C.U.R.E. has enabled us to significantly enhance healthcare delivery in these communities, but we need your help to continue this vital work.

Our surgical programs, which conduct all surgeries in public hospitals, collaborate closely with the Dominican Ministry of Health. The public healthcare system is underfunded, often leaving hospitals without basic supplies or equipment, causing significant delays in patient treatment. A patient can be bedridden for months after an accident simply because the needed surgical devices are not available. One of our pediatric patients had third-degree burns on both hands and needed swift surgical intervention or she would spend a lifetime with pain and disability. These hardships are not only emotionally and physically impactful, but affect the economic wellbeing of the patient and their families as well. Our partnership with Project C.U.R.E aims to bridge the gap between need and available care.

One notable example of our impact is Taiwan Regional Hospital in the Azua District, which serves nearly 300,000 people. This hospital has faced numerous challenges, including times when surgeries had to be postponed due to a lack of sutures. Project C.U.R.E. first intervened in 2015, providing a container of critical supplies after conducting a thorough, on-site needs assessment to ensure that the container addressed the unique requirements of the medical staff, allowing them to improve diagnosis, treatment, and overall patient care. A second container in 2019 further expanded their capacity to provide essential care.

We are now raising funds for another container of medical supplies to continue this life-changing work. Your contribution will directly support the delivery of critical equipment and supplies to hospitals like Taiwan Regional Hospital, empowering them to provide better care and improve health outcomes for thousands of people.
